Author: Patrícia Andrade de Oliveira e Silva

Abstract:"The 2000s, especially after 2004, constituted a distinct period for the Brazilian economy, featuring sustained economic growth. According to data from the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística—IBGE), the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose from BRL1.2 trillion in 2000 to BRL5.6 trillion in 2014, with growth every year except for 2009, when it fell by 0.1 per cent due to the international economic crisis. Inequality indicators followed the same trend, with the Gini index decreasing from 0.570 in 2004 to 0.515 in 2014". (...)
