Abstract:"Over recent decades, an increasing number of developing countries have started to develop social policies and programmes, such as cash transfers, aiming to contribute to the eradication of poverty, food insecurity and vulnerabilities. Some have been inspired by Brazilian achievements. The halving of extreme poverty since the early 2000s, which lifted millions of Brazilians out of situations of deprivation in a relatively short period, drew the world’s attention to the pioneering design and implementation features of innovative Brazilian social programmes, with Bolsa Família the most prominent example".
