Information Note to the Invited International Participants

 

1) Information and documents we need from you

Please send us, at your earliest convenience, a short biography, your paper, and your power point presentation. We want to make them available to participants in the conference website as soon as they are ready.

To facilitate communication, please send us your mailing address, phone number, and keep us updated with any changes in your contact information.

 

2) Conference programme

The conference site will be the Carlton Hotel and a preliminary conference programme will be sent promptly to all participants. The conference programme will be also available and up-dated regularly, in the conference website ( www.undp-povertycentre.org/md-poverty).

 

3) Local Transportation

Airport-Hotel-Airport tranportation in Brasilia will be provided free of charge. You will be able to identify our transportation personnel by the UNDP and IPC banners. We will also take care of any other transportation to Conference events.

 

4) Hotel accommodation

A single room has been reserved on your behalf (checking-in on Sunday 29 August, checking-out on Thursday 1 September) at the Melia Hotel. This is located at 100 m. from the Conference site (Carlton Hotel). The IPC will cover the room during these four nights. The IPC will not cover any additional expenses (such as phone calls, laundry, minibar, additional nights, etc.); therefore do ensure that you settle any additional bills before you depart from the hotel.

 

5) Meals

B reakfast will be provided in the hotel at no expense for you. Lunch and dinner will be provided at the hotel for those requesting on Sunday 28 August. Lunch and some dinners will be scheduled in the conference programme.

 

6) Other expenses

The IPC will be unable to cover any additional expenses you might incurr, such as visa fees, terminal expenses at departure point.

9) Travel

We will shortly contact you to carry-on the necessary travell arrangements. The IPC will cover ariplane fares based on the lowest direct flight available in economy class. We can purchase and send you the ticket or we can reimburse if you decide to purchase the ticket yourself. But, in this last case we will not be able to reimburse you any amount above the quoted value corresponding to our proposed itinerary.

 

 

 

10) Visa

Travelers from some countries may need an entry visa for Brazil. Please check with the nearest diplomatic Brazilian representation whether you need a visa.

To guide in this process, we have attached information on visa requirements, but you should not take this is as official information. Please be informed that the Brazilian Government does not issue visas upon arrival. As obtaining visas sometimes takes more than two weeks, we do advice you to clear your visa at your earliest convenience.

11) About Brasília

Although Brasília is quite safe, particularly so around the hotel and conference area, we do advice you to follow the customary basic security procedures.

Y ou will be in Brasilia during the dry season, with low humidity (40%), and temperatures within a 16 - 24º C range.

The local currency is the Real, and the current rate of exchange ( May 27, 2005) is US$1 = R$ 2.40 (or R$1 = US$0.42)
